CONSPIRACY TO STERILIZE GAYS? I got almost cock-slapped on the dance floor, and it got me thinking. Some months ago I disconnected one testicle as a result of assault, hard to know if it was intentional or not. So in my head I go through (again) all the reasons someone would want to sterilize me. Is there a secret conspiracy to sterilize me / gay men / Greens members? I just don't know. In my head I recall ominous public health campaigns like "Ending HIV", fuck that sounds scary, like how do I know authorities won't just end our lives to achieve that goal? Even "Extinction Rebellion" sounds ominous in my mind, like is someone out to kill us? Or is it a false flag / black mirror / sword of Damacles? Not long after our Hard Right government approved gay marriage, up pops the symbol for extinction on rainbow coloured flags, weird. We are expected to believe a Hard Right wing government that disbelieves climate science, and is ideologically opposed to ...

GLADSTONE In Gladstone Queensland I was the volunteer secretary and co-convenor of the Central Queensland branch of the Greens before the federal election. Given that the port of Gladstone is a major export point for Australian coal and also an access point for the southern Great Barrier Reef, I was and am alarmed by the lack of local environmental awareness there. A lot of national focus is given to the planned mines in the northern Galilee basin, but the basin actually extends south and inland to current and planned mines in central Queensland. These southern mines export to Gladstone and not the Abbot point terminal. Perhaps the lack of attention to the port of Gladstone is because of the coal being coking rather than thermal? Still I am concerned that the Gladstone area, being an area of diverse ecology protected but threatened by development, is overlooked by the national level discussion of climate change impacts. The Stop Adani campaign is heartening and brings hope. I would...

FOR THE DEAD PART TWO: THE BALI NINE In 2001 I met at least one person who would later become a member of the Bali Nine drug smuggling syndicate. I was living in Auchenflower Brisbane and I was 18 years old. There was a house near the Auchenflower train station where I would go to smoke with some old pensioners. One night there was a party of sorts at a house next door, I remember being informed of the party and invited. So I went to the party, I didn't just wander in randomly. At some point in the evening I entered a room where there were two people I would later see on television, years later in 2004, as people involved in the Bali Nine drug smuggling attempt. What I want to say is I was invited to Bali. But it did not happen at this party, and I was not informed of the intention to smuggle drugs back to Australia. It happened one day at the house of the old pensioners next door. A person who would later be imprisoned in Bali said the words "Come to Bali" when I wa...

FOR THE DEAD PART ONE: DANIEL MORCOMBE The first time I saw the missing person posters for 14 year old Daniel Morcombe was in Toowong Brisbane in early 2004. My parents had moved to Tasmania and I had moved to Toowong, previously I was at Auchenflower. When I saw the photo of Daniel holding a glass of milk, I remembered one night in 2001 when a male acquintance, whom I will call A., visited me at my flat in Auchenflower and took me for a long drive in his car- I don't know where to. What I remembered, or thought I remembered, is a boy in the back seat of A.'s car who looked like Daniel. That night A. took me to a house he was living at and there were other young people there of both sexes. So in 2004 I stood there looking at this missing person photo of 14 year old Daniel Morcombe and tried to remember that night from three years previous. Could it have been the same boy? He would only have been 11 years old then, the details of that night in 2001 were blurry in my ...

Quetzalcoatl's Eyes This painting symbolises how two men who I thought were my friends betrayed my trust and humiliated me in my own home. Strangely the incident was almost a reinactment of a humiliation four teenagers enacted on me in year 8 of high school. Is there no man I can trust? Is every man intent on humiliating me? Is every friend a talking snake?

HOMOPHOBIA IS ANTI-LIFE Homophobia and gay to straight conversion therapy is thoughtcrime of grievous bodily harm. So don't ask me not to be on a war footing against anti-life homophobia. Gay men are men and if you hate gay men, you hate that God created Adam. When you reject a man for being gay you reject Jesus and Gods' entire creation.

NEOLIBERALISM IS ECONOMIC FASCISM The Australian Liberal National Party government supports coal power even in the face of economic data showing renewable energy is cheaper. Not to mention the disastrous economic and environmental and social costs global climate change will bring. The Australian Liberal National Party government's inaction on global climate change is because of neo liberal economic ideology. It is more important to them to force through their economic agenda of deregulation and privatization and surveillance, than it is to act to stop man made global warming.

COLD BURNING FORESTS WILL NOT STOP CLIMATE CHANGE Because Tasmania is over logged, the last remaining forests are the last refuge for many species. It is the systematic logging of forests which has caused this. So all the species of birds and bugs are pushed into the smallest geographic area possible for their survival... And now you want to set fire to it? How about ensuring the animals and insects can relocate first? How about increasing habitat for fauna and fauna? My key point is that forest coverage in Tasmania is not w hat it should be, so the remaining forests are even more precious as they are home to displaced animals. An old or dead tree may be the home of an animal or bird or fungi. I'm not disagreeing with cold burns, I'm just saying that ecosystems are compromised by logging. Ecosystems that are already stressed are less resilient. I lived in Tasmania for ten years and I saw the environmental movement at it's lowest ever ebb. I also was shocked that re...

WHAT HOMOPHOBIA MEANS TO ME Homophobia is the looks of disapproval I got from my family when I was just eleven years old. Homophobia is the way teachers tried to make me take an interest in women's genitals. Homophobia is unstated but implicit heterosexual bias. Homophobia is the idea that heterosexuality is the only normal sexuality. Homophobia is the fear I felt to get on the school bus every day. Homophobia is being hit with fists. Homophobia is being stared at and laughe d at. Homophobia is being excluded and misunderstood. Homophobia is the idea that all gay men have especially close bonds with women, or act like women, or maybe have a female brain. Homophobia is people pressuring me to engage in sexual acts with women that I don't want. Homophobia is women and men coming between me and my happiness with other men. Homophobia is not being loved by my parents, not being cuddled, not being included in family. Homophobia meant that the supports I needed for my adolescent...

THE GREENS All of us are in the Greens because we are sick of the politicians who support the interests of big oil, they even going to war for it, which condemns generations to live in poverty. New start has not been raised since 1994, which has real negative impacts on peoples life chances and quality of life, it is this kind of constant grinding inequality and punitive laws that outrages us. We want to lift standards of living for the poor, help them to have healthy nourished children. We want to build loving communities, empathic leaders, strong cultures and open hearts. The Greens want to strengthen civil society and public assets for a future for all of us. Australia's parliamentary democratic system needs substantive change, we need more feedback from citizens to government, not just one vote every four years. And we need an Australian charter of human rights. Most urgently we need to remove corporate donations to political parties, only the Greens will introduce a bill...
